Wisdom Rings Book Nook Instructions: Book Repository Build Guide with Videos

Wisdom Rings Book Repository book nook with curved glass doors and twin spiral staircases

The Wisdom Rings Book Repository is a two-storey miniature library behind a pair of curved glass doors: twin spiral staircases wind around a central column of books, a little tree grows on the upper floor, and rings of warm LED light glow on both levels. With 356 pieces it looks far more complicated than it is. This guide takes you through the whole build, from the first books to the curved doors, with the matching part of a complete real-time video series under each stage.

Wisdom Rings Book Nook: Quick Facts

  • Pieces and steps: 356 pieces and a little over 110 steps, in a 46-page colour manual. The box rates it 5 out of 5 for difficulty.
  • Finished size: about 13.5 x 16.5 x 21 cm. It's shallower and wider than most book nooks, with a rounded front, so it works best as a standalone piece on a shelf or desk.
  • Build time: the six build videos add up to about four hours, filmed mostly in real time. Plan for 5 to 8 hours.
  • Difficulty: intermediate. Despite the 5/5 on the box, the parts fit precisely and there's very little book-making. The only fiddly moments are the railings, the staircases and the doors.
  • Lighting: LED rings and single bulbs on one bundle, with a battery box and a touch sensor. Glue and batteries (2 x AAA) are not included.

Before You Start: What's in the Box and What to Have Ready

You get the wooden sheets, sticker sheets for the books and trims, a ready-made miniature tree, rigid acrylic for the door glass and the roof, thinner flexible acrylic for the staircase rails, the LED bundle with its battery box and touch sensor, tweezers, and the manual. Most of the books come as pre-printed blocks that slot straight onto the shelves, so there are only a handful of individual books to wrap.

Our guide to the tools and supplies you need to build a book nook covers the basics. For this kit, have ready:

  • A clear craft glue with a fine nozzle (B-7000 type). Most joints are snug, so you only need small dots.
  • A hot glue gun for the wiring and for planting the tree.
  • A dark stain or touch-up marker for the pale cut edges, plus a green and a grey one if you want to tint the carved tree and branches.
  • A small clamp or some double-sided tape to hold parts while the glue sets.
  • A scrap of sticky tape for lifting the protective film off the acrylic.

One tip before step 1: the colour photos in the manual make the small holes in the dark wood hard to see. Count the holes on the part itself rather than trusting the picture, and number the pieces you've pulled out so you can keep them in order.

Part 1: The Books, the Base and the First Bookcase (Unboxing and Steps 1 to 18)

You start by wrapping the few individual books (three shapes, about ten minutes), then build the base. A long printed sticker wraps around the curved front of the floor, two small platforms go in the middle for the stairs to wrap around later, and the first tall bookcase is assembled from pre-printed shelf blocks.

  • Roll the curved front sticker slowly from one end, pressing as you go, and check that it lines up with the notch at each end.
  • Colour the pale edges of the platforms before gluing; once they're in, you can't reach them.
  • The shelf blocks that look the same are the same: line them up and you'll see straight through them.

Part 2: The Tree of Knowledge and the Ground Floor (Steps 19 to 51)

This stage builds the wooden "tree of knowledge", a central pillar with branches carrying books, then four more bookcases, a writing desk with books, flowers and a lamp, a small sofa, a side table and a flower vase. By the end, the ground floor is complete and you can see the slots where the staircases will land.

  • Follow the manual's order here: build the box first, then fit the tree. Daniel mounted the tree first to have a firmer base and had to take it out again, because the branches have recesses that overlap the frame.
  • Some branches are loose. A drop of glue on each side of those is enough.
  • On the desk, fit the legs before the decorations, so you don't have to turn it over with wet glue on top.
  • On the sofa, slot the back into its frame first, so every piece after it has two surfaces to glue to.

Part 3: The Central Column and the First Light Ring (Steps 52 to 71)

The column in the middle of the library gets its semicircular shelves of books and a fine railing that becomes the top step of the stairs. Then the upper floor is fitted, the first light ring goes in under it, and for the first time you can switch the lights on with the touch sensor.

  • The central panels are veneered on one side only. Check which face points forward before pressing them in.
  • The railing is thin and needs some pressure to seat. Support it from behind and push gently, a little at a time.
  • Double-sided tape plus a dot of glue holds the floor trims in place while the glue sets.
  • Light 4 is the shorter of the two rings. Tack its wire into the channel with hot glue.

Part 4: The Twin Spiral Staircases (Steps 72 to 84)

This is the centrepiece: two flights of numbered steps that slot into curved strips of flexible acrylic, one on each side of the column. It sounds daunting, but the strips bend naturally as you add the steps and the finished flights drop into their slots. The first bookcase for the upper floor is built at the end of this stage.

  • Lay the steps out in order first and colour their edges before you start.
  • The longer strip goes on the outside. Start with the inner, shorter one; it's easier to handle.
  • The last flight curves the other way (convex, not concave), so check the direction before you start it.
  • A small drop of glue under the bottom step keeps each flight from springing out.
  • Daniel tried darkening the top edge of the rails with a marker to make them look less like glass. The difference is small, so it's optional.

Part 5: The Upper Floor, the Tree and the Wiring (Steps 85 to 104)

The upper floor gets a curio shelf (with a tiny angel statue, a lamp and a pumpkin), two more bookcases, the tree and the roof. Then the remaining lights are wired in: two single bulbs, one bulb over the central column, the touch sensor and the top light ring.

  • Plant the tree with a blob of hot glue and turn its fullest side to the front; it's a little flat on the back.
  • Match the lights by length: light 1 is the shortest, then 2, then 3.
  • Bend each bulb's legs to 90 degrees so it drops neatly into its hole.
  • The wire brackets don't grip very tightly; a dab of hot glue does the job better.
  • If the top ring doesn't sit flat, move its solder joint away from the crossbar, then glue it with a drop on each support.

Part 6: The Outer Shell and the Curved Doors (Step 105 to the End)

The last stage closes everything in: the side panels with their windows and small picture frames, the back cover with the battery box, and the two curved glass doors, which open on real hinges. The roof gets a clear acrylic skylight and a sticker trim, and the touch sensor goes under the roof.

  • Build the doors as mirror images, with the handles facing out. Lay them side by side before gluing to check.
  • Peel the acrylic film carefully; it tends to cling to the door frames. A scrap of tape on a corner helps.
  • Each door has a small extra piece that isn't in the manual (it was added after printing). Daniel fitted it facing the back of the door.
  • Don't glue the touch sensor down before this stage: it moves up under the roof at the end.
  • The doors clear the staircases by very little, so make sure both flights are fully seated before fitting them.

Common Problems and How to Fix Them

I can't see where the parts go in the manual

The photos are in colour on dark wood, so the holes barely show. Count the holes on the actual part and check the next page of the manual, which often shows the finished result more clearly.

The staircase keeps springing out

Push each flight fully into its top and bottom slots, then add a small drop of glue under the bottom step and between the two flights.

The bulbs won't stay in place

Bend the legs to 90 degrees and fix the wire with hot glue instead of relying on the clips.

The lights don't work

The battery box has no on-off switch: the touch sensor turns the lights on and off. Check the batteries and the connections, and see our guide on what to do when book nook LEDs aren't working.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Videos in This Guide

The videos come from Daniel Builds, who filmed his whole Wisdom Rings build in real time, including the mistakes and how he fixed them. We aren't connected to his channel; it's simply the most complete walkthrough of this kit we've found. If it helps you, give him a subscribe.

On YouTube the playlist is listed newest first, and two pairs of videos share the same title, so in this guide the videos are in build order, and each one carries on with the next stage when it finishes.
